Andrew Vasquez is a doctoral student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas pursuing his DMA in Viola Performance studying under the instruction of Professor of Viola, Kate Hamilton. As a Las Vegas native, Andrew holds a BM and MM in Viola Performance from UNLV where he was a Graduate Assistant Violist and Principal Violist of the UNLV Symphony Orchestra. Andrew has studied with Principal Violist of the Las Vegas Philharmonic Jason Bonham, Professor of Viola at Texas Christian University Misha Galaganov, Professor of Viola at West Chester University Adriana Linares, and Professor of Viola at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Kate Hamilton. Andrew’s performance education throughout his BM and MM includes performances with the UNLV Nextet, UNLV Baroque Ensemble, UNLV Graduate String Quartet and String Quintet, UNLV opera productions, as well as Principal Violist of the UNLV Symphony Orchestra.
Andrew Vasquez has performed all around the United States as well as internationally. In high school, Andrew performed in the viola section of the Las Vegas Honor Orchestra and Las Vegas All-State Orchestra. After earning an International Baccalaureate diploma from Green Valley High School, he began his performance career with the Green Valley High School Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Andrew has gone on to perform in other viola sections around the country such as the Tuacahn Symphony Orchestra at the Tuacahn Center for the Arts Symphony Festival in St. George, Utah, and the viola section of the FOOSA Philharmonic Orchestra in Fresno, California. Andrew has also performed in chamber festivals such as the Oracle Chamber Festival in Oracle, Arizona where he was invited back as a paid guest artist with the AMUN Quintet. Andrew’s international career consists of performing in Milan, Italy with the UNLV Virtuosi String Ensemble with featured guest artist Violist Matthew Hunter from the Berlin Philharmonic. Andrew’s freelance work includes various performances in Las Vegas such as the Latin Grammy’s.
Andrew Vasquez is a performer as well as a teacher and coach for violin, viola, and piano all around the Las Vegas and Henderson area. Andrew has a profound desire and joy to educate young minds through music with his holistic approach to music education. His philosophy for teaching includes being comfortable and relaxed with your instrument to avoid any acute or chronic injuries. He believes utilizing the Alexander Technique in his lessons is beneficial for a student’s growth as a musician. As a teacher, Andrew believes in having a welcoming and affirming teaching environment but holds a high standard for his students. Andrew has helped spread the joy and interest in string instruments to young minds by portraying stories through music with the UNLV Graduate String Quartet at elementary schools throughout the Las Vegas and Henderson area. Andrew promotes a safe teaching environment for all his students.
