Doorstep Music Lessons observes four main holidays in our teaching year.

1. Thanksgiving (Tuesday - Sunday)

2. Winter Holidays (Two weeks split between mid-December and early-January)

3. Spring Break (One week aligning with the largest local public school district)

Yes, Doorstep Music Lessons teaches on all single-day holidays, including but not limited to

• New Year’s Day — January 1

• Martin Luther King Jr. Day — Third Monday in January

• Washington’s Birthday (Presidents' Day) — Third Monday in February

• Memorial Day — Last Monday in May

• Juneteenth National Independence Day — June 19

• Independence Day — July 4

• Labor Day — First Monday in September

• Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day — Second Monday in October

• Veterans Day — November 11

If you will be out for a holiday, you can always request a make up in advance subject to teacher availability.

For most students, your tuition statement remains the same every single month, including months with 5 weeks (happens 4 times per year) and during months with the 4 holiday weeks per year.

1. This means you are not charged extra in some months and less in other months

2. You will always have 48 teaching weeks per year, so it averages out for you

3. This makes it easy to budget, because your bill remains the same every time

Exception: If you start between 10/15 and the beginning of Winter Break, or in the same month as Spring Break, your first holiday only is prorated at the time you register. All other months are at the regular tuition statement amount.

Cancelling a lesson series due to holidays is strongly discouraged, as January is the school's busiest enrollment season, so your slot will most likely be filled, especially popular times like weekdays 4:00-8:00 pm or Saturdays.

There are no lessons scheduled during any annual school-wide holiday period, so this means there is nothing to make up, since no lessons are being cancelled. These are not teacher or family cancellations.

We do this because 90%+ of families cancel lessons during Thanksgiving week, two weeks around Christmas and New Year's, and for Spring Break. This allows students to spend time with their families, without burdening families with scheduling make up lessons during the busiest times of the year.

In addition, have a 48-week teaching year means that your tuition statement is able to stay the same every single month, including the 4 months per year with 5 weeks in them. It averages out for you to make budgeting easy and predictable.
